Resolution of People Issues

Business Challenge

A corporation was experiencing high turnover, low productivity and poor morale in a key area of its operations. The employees in that area had conflicts with other teams and spent a great deal of time in ongoing battles and gripe sessions. Managers and executives were dedicating too much precious time to futile attempts at resolving the problems, and were very frustrated. Despite many meetings with Human Resources on the issues, the problems not only persisted, but carried over into other areas.

Solution

Using systems thinking and human resources tools, a Rock Ledge Resources principal worked to unsnarl the complex issues that plagued this group. She worked closely with managers, employees and co-workers to correct misperceptions, change attitudes, and amend unacceptable behavior. By challenging assumptions and expectations at all levels of the organization, she found ways to break old patterns of behavior, change attitudes and move the group in a new direction.

Results

Real cultural change requires years of ongoing effort, but in a short time the principal was able to break the cycle of negativity for most employees in the group, teach more effective ways of dealing with problems and help rebuild the group's reputation within the organization.
