New Facility Size and Service Lines

Business Challenge

With the expansion of cities into suburbs and exurbs, these new homes and businesses slowly get farther and farther away from the community's major medical facilities. Once a population critical mass is reached, it may be time to construct a brand new medical facility to serve this customer base. Determining the size and composition of the prospective new facility, however can be difficult. Replicating the size and full service lines of the hospitals in nearby, denser environments is a recipe for financial disaster.

Solution

A Rock Ledge Resources principal was engaged by a hospital system to evaluate inpatient hospital utilization of existing facilities and prospective new facilities. Several new facility locations in different suburbs were evaluated. Additionally, the size and service line composition of the new facility was proposed. The thought process was geared towards maximizing the utilization of expensive fixed assets as quickly as possible, while planning for the efficient growth of the fixed asset base over time.

Results

A new health facility profitably serving the core health care needs of its surrounding community.
