Business Creation and Start-up Operations

Business Challenge

A start-up business requires owners and managers to wear many hats – often more than they have time for and many that don't match their preferences or skill-sets. Further, managers deeply involved in one or more aspects of the business may have difficulty formalizing or communicating the company's story and vision to prospective outside partners. Compounding these limitations, outside partners and investors may communicate their expectation in terminology that is unfamiliar to a startup company, making it difficult for that company to respond clearly. A promising early stage medical company was in this situation, and desperately needed assistance in presenting their business to outside partners and investors.

Solution

The importance and value of a new product or service is often lost in translation when communicating with prospective outside partners. Further, outside partners have different perspective regarding the company. If communication is ineffective, the partnership can be weak, or break down completely. A Rock Ledge Resources principal was engaged to create a business plan for the medical company that communicated the business' story and its products' potential in a language and format familiar to outside partners. In developing the plan, the principal also worked to better-align the expectations of the company with those of the prospective outside partners.

Results

The principal delivered a professional business and financial plan, including text-based and numeric descriptions of the company's markets, descriptions and mileposts for its current and projected future operations and an analysis of the operating environment.
